Note: This feature is not available on Legacy Graphics plans.
How To Install
In the Design Pickle Platform, go to Settings > Integrations.
Under the Slack section, click Connect Slack.
Select your Slack workspace from the selector.
Review the permissions, then click Allow. You'll be redirected back to Settings → Integrations, where Slack will now show a Connected status.
That's it! Your workspace is connected.
Add The App To Your Slack Channels
Once connected, you can add the Design Pickle bot to any Slack channel where you'd like to receive request updates. Each channel is independent, and you can add the bot to as many channels as you need.
To add the bot to a channel:
In the channel, type /invite @Design Pickle and press Enter.
Or, open the channel's Settings > Integrations > Add an app, then select Design Pickle.
Things to know:
Each channel you add the bot to will receive request lifecycle notifications (work started, clarification needed, request delivered, request completed).
Removing the bot from a channel unsubscribes only that channel. Other channels and the overall integration are not affected.
Re-inviting the bot to a channel reactivates it.
Where Notifications Go
Notifications are sent to two places, depending on the type:
Destination | What You'll Receive |
💬 Direct message (from the Design Pickle app, personal to you) | New chat messages, @mentions, replies in chat threads you're part of, and new messages from your creative team |
📢 Channel (any channel the bot was added to) | Request lifecycle updates: work started, clarification needed, request delivered, request completed |
Pro Tip: To reduce notification noise, mute the Design Pickle bot's DMs. In Slack, go to Apps > Design Pickle, then open the conversation settings (the notification bell) and select Mute.
Slash Command Reference
All commands use the /designpickle prefix. They're available in any channel or DM where the bot has been added.
Note:
These commands are only visible to you.
Commands only work once your workspace is connected and your Slack email matches the email on your Design Pickle account. If either isn't in place, you'll see a clear message in Slack explaining what's needed.
Slash commands require a Production Coordinator on your account.
4hr (and up) Creative Service subscriptions include a Production Coordinator at no extra cost. If you are on a 2-3hr Creative Service subscription, slash commands will not be available.
You may contact our Support Team if you're interested in adding a Production Coordinator to your account.
Command | What It Does |
/designpickle create | Opens a form to create a new design request. You can attach files by pasting direct file links, and they'll be added to the request. |
/designpickle chat [message] | Message your Design Pickle team without leaving Slack. Opens a quick composer, or type your message inline (e.g.,/designpickle chat running a little behind, will review tomorrow). Aliases: /designpickle message, /designpickle msg. Note: Only available for chat-enabled accounts. Account admins and managers can start a chat directly. Other team members will be prompted to ask a company admin to add them to the conversation first. |
/designpickle list | Shows your most recent requests. Each title is a tappable link to the request. |
/designpickle [REQUEST_ID] | Looks up a specific request by ID (e.g. /designpickle 12345 or /designpickle DPP-12345). |
/designpickle help | Lists all available commands. |
Create A Request
Type /designpickle create in any channel or DM where the bot is active.
Fill in the request details. To attach files, paste your direct file links into the file field.
Click Submit. A summary of your request will appear in the channel.
💡 Pro Tip: Need a direct URL for an image? Drag and drop the file into any Slack channel, then right-click the image and select Copy Image URL.
Manage Requests & Notifications
When your creative team takes action on a request, you'll receive a notification card in Slack. Here's what each card looks like and what you can do from it:
Card | Available Buttons |
🟢 Work Has Started | View Request |
🟡 Clarification Needed | Reply View Request |
📦 Request Delivered | Mark as Complete View Deliverables |
✅ Request Completed | View Request |
💬 Chat Message (DM) | Reply View in Platform |
Notes on card actions:
Mark as Complete: The Request Delivered card marks the request complete in one tap.
Reply:
Sending a reply to a Clarification Needed card opens a text form in Slack. Submitting your answer sends it directly to your creative and changes the request status back to ‘In Progress’.
Sending a reply to a Chat Message DM opens the chat composer, pre-targeted at that conversation. Your reply posts back into Design Pickle chat.
All View buttons open the request in the Design Pickle web app. If you're logged out, you'll be prompted to log in first.
To cancel a request, use the View Request or View in Platform button to open it in the Design Pickle web app, then cancel from there.
Remove The Slack App
You can disconnect the integration from either side:
From Design Pickle: Go to Settings > Integrations, then disconnect Slack.
From Slack:
Go to the Apps section in Slack.
Select the Design Pickle app, then click Configuration.
Scroll to the bottom of the page and find the Remove App section.
Click Remove App.
Either method disconnects and stops all notifications.
FAQs
Can I add the bot to more than one channel?
Yes! Add the bot to as many channels as you need. Each channel receives request lifecycle updates independently.
What happens if I remove the bot from one channel?
Only that channel is unsubscribed. Your other channels and the overall integration remain active. Re-invite the bot at any time to reactivate it.
What if my slash commands aren't working?
Make sure your workspace is connected in Settings > Integrations, and that the email address on your Slack account matches the one on your Design Pickle account. If something's off, Slack will show you a message explaining what to fix.
Can I message my creative team from Slack?
Yes! Use /designpickle chat [your message] to send a message directly to your Design Pickle team. You can also reply to chat notification DMs using the Reply button, and your reply posts straight into Design Pickle chat.
